Picketts Charge ........The original painting is oil on canvas 40" by 80"

In 1913 the Federal Government held a anniversary reunion. The climax of event was a reenactment of Pickett's Charge. This painted is from a photo by Philip Myers a young photographer who was there, and these are his words. Union veterans took up their postions on Cemetary Ridge and watch as their old adversaries emerged from the woods on Seminary Ridge not with rifle and bayonets but canes and crutches, the more agile ones helping those less able to maintain their place in rank. As they neared the Northern line, they broke into one final rebel yell, afer a half century of silence a sigh, a gigantic gasp of unbelief rose from the union men. The Yankees unable to restrain themselfs longer, burst from behind the stone wall and flung themselves upon their former enemies.....not in mortal combat, but re-united in brotherly love and affection.
